Every other Friday, Waldo the African Grey Parrot, frontbird of thrash-grind immortals Hatebeak, will get you caught up on the week’s latest “extreme” releases.

Que pasa? Your boy Waldo here, telling you about THE BEST—and I mean THE BEST—upcoming releases this next couple of weeks.

Everyone that’s a fan of the old-school should check out BEHERIT’s At the Devil’s Studio. Reissued by Hells Headbangers, and props to them for keeping it real, this early Finnish black metal band drapes dark sonic landscapes over an occult backdrop. There is no keyboard wankery or frozen cold landscapes—just raw, visceral, kick-you-in-the-dick black metal that’s played like black metal should be. Not one for “art,” Beherit go for the jugular, and let you know it’s blood they are after, and it’s blood they shall receive. Get your old-school on, beaking rob a grave and get your Beherit on. 8 FUCKING Pecks.

Afraid of gore? Really? And why the squawk not? Philly’s GOREAPHOBIA return with Apocalyptic Necromancy. Another “classic” at least old-school band, they play pretty by-the-numbers death metal with a healthy dose of cheese. Many members have left and returned a couple of times, they’re a member of the original Relapse Singles Series, and easily one of the better bands from Philly. If you’re familiar with their sound, or just old-style death metal in general, there’s nothing really surprising. Fuzzy, heavy guitars blaze over a death metal beat with growled vocals. The production is certainly a step above most previous releases, and that’s where the charm is lost, in one birdbrain’s opinion. The rawer production of the earlier releases was so beaking cool. Anyway, check this out, it’s pretty good. Still not afraid of gore? 7 FUCKING Pecks.

Keeping with the old-school theme this week, the BITCH is back. The female-fronted Bitch are re-releasing Be My Slave/Damnation Alley. You like W.A.S.P.? This is W.A.S.P. with Betsey Bitch, as opposed to Blackie Lawless, NWOBHM-style riffs with a wailing female vocalist that sings mostly about bondage, S+M and other subjects. Pretty fun, although certainly not necessary, the Be My Slave LP is a lot of fun and the EP Damnation Alley is no disappointment either. BITCH cut their vagina dentata’ed teeth in the early U.S. days of the Metal Massacre releases. So much fun, if you like fun, and so many of you loveless screwballs do not. Don’t think you’re going to get a smoking hot chick either—Betsey Bitch definitely looks a little long in the beak—but if you want some hard-rocking America heavy metal, this is what you need. An itch for the bitch. 7 FUCKING Pecks.

Typically this is where I’d drop some old-school knowledge about a band that should deserve more attention, but never really got any; however, all the stuff I’ve been up to this week should be enough.
