Review: Marty Friedman — Inferno
May 23rd, 2014 at 9:15am

After longtime Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman quit the band in 2000, he moved to Japan, became a TV celebrity, and released many eclectic solo albums. His latest, Inferno, is his most back-to-basics offering, packed with trenchant, off-kilter melodic thrash riffs and virtuosic solos. Guest stars provide extra firepower: Danko Jones and Children of Bodom’s Alexi Laiho trade vocal lines on “Lycanthrope,” Shining saxophonist-singer Jørgen Munkeby battles Friedman’s leads on “Meat Hook,” and Revocation’s David Davidson adds growling and clean vocals to “Sociopaths.” For shred fans, Inferno is positively incendiary.
