Review: Overkill — White Devil Armory
July 16th, 2014 at 9:15am

Twenty-four years and 17 albums on, these New Jersey thrashers are as ferocious as the day ‘Feel the Fire’ came out in 1985. ‘White Devil Armory’ starts out with 50 seconds of drone, which is as quiet as the 11-track set gets before Overkill gallops into “Armorist,” a raging blast of hardcore fury and spitting rant from Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth. “Pig” and “It’s All Yours” ride a punkier kind of energy, but ‘White Devil Armory’ is really defined by its dynamically shifting epics, including the cinematic opus “Freedom Rings” and the album closing “In the Name,” which boasts a Dio-style grandeur.
